A growing body of evidence suggests that management capacity is intrinsically linked with clinical outcomes in the NHS. A lack of managers is causing gaps that it is being filled by clinicians, removing them from caring duties while the backlog continues to grow. Now is the time to discuss sensibly how managers can best support clinical colleagues to bring down waiting lists and facilitate faster care for patients.

Why the NHS workforce crisis won’t be solved without Agenda for Change

Our regular session on NHS pay – tune in for updates on pay in every nation of the UK and learn about MiP’s approach to secure a fair and meaningful pay award in 2024.

Industrial action by UNISON and MiP members worked this year when governments across the UK shifted their stance on NHS pay and negotiated directly with striking unions. The deal in England brings a major programme of non-pay elements designed to help Agenda for Change recruit and retain staff. Join this session to hear about why the strike worked, what next for Agenda for Change, and the outlook for pay and industrial relations over the winter and into next year.

After Letby: perspectives on management regulation and how we raise concerns
Wednesday 8 November: 1 – 2pm

Since the conclusion of the Lucy Letby case, there have been renewed calls for action to prevent something as horrific as this happening again. One such intervention gaining significant traction is for NHS managers to be regulated by statutory legislation, underpinned by new professional standards. Is this the quick-fix that politicians hope it will be, or does it miss the point entirely? Many believe that the culture around raising concerns is the more urgent and important priority. 

Join Matthew McClelland, Executive Director of Strategy and Insight for the NMC and Karen Bonner, Chief Nurse at Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust and hear about how professional regulation works, debate the implications for NHS managers, and have your say on raising concerns and whistleblowing, as both a manager and an employee.
