MiP webinar: Building LGBT+ inclusive workplaces

Online, Friday 3 September 2021 at 12.30pm.

Managers in Partnership is holding a webinar on LGBT+ inclusion in the workplace at 12.30pm on 3rd September. The webinar will be chaired by Anthony Nichols, head of diversity and inclusion at NHS England/Improvement North West, and a member of MiP’s National Committee.

Panellists include:

  • Lucy Power, co-chair of UNISON’s LGBT+ National Committee
  • Jenny Harvey, UNISON Health Group Executive and a trainer in transgender awareness and inclusion
  • A member of the national NHS England/Improvement LGBT+ staff network (to be confirmed)
  • Jon Restell, chief executive of MiP

Last year, MiP’s National Commitee started to take a more focused look at equality. We held webinars on the Black Lives Matter movement and on women in the workplace. Obviously, intersectional issues were discussed but the committee is keen to focus also on LGBT+ people and issues at work. Our broader work on changing the culture at work and talking to our reps and members impacts hugely on inclusion, voice and visibility of people from the various equality groups. We have published a guide to managing culture change in the workplace and will be  following that with a booklet on managing equality and diversity in the autumn. This webinar will inform the booklet, our programme for the MiP Summit in November 2021 and our priorities for 2022.

The webinar will last about an hour and we will keep the discussion deliberately broad so that the panel and MiP members can feel confident about raising any issues they wish, whether it’s personal experiences, policies and procedures, the legal framework, wider social issues or how managers can learn from the panellists’ experience of leading change.
