MiP Statement: Scottish Government Issues Final Pay Offer For NHS Staff
MiP’s partner union UNISON will open another online consultative ballot on Monday (28th) to get members’ views on the new offer. MiP members will be included in this ballot – please check your inbox for an email directly from UNISON outlining how to vote.
MiP’s Chief Executive Jon Restell has issued the below statement regarding the offer:
“Our members believe that pay awards this year should be weighted towards lower paid colleagues during the cost of living crisis. But this deal doesn’t value the contribution of senior staff. The revised offer brings members in band 8A back to the 5% of the Scottish Government’s original offer. For other senior staff in band 8B and above the offer gives rises of between 2 and 3.6%, less cash than staff in bands 5 to 8A and less than half the deal’s 7.5% overall value. With inflation at over 10% these are substantial pay cuts.
“The government should worry about the message it is sending to senior staff: that they are not valued and not even worth a mention in the government’s announcement. NHS Scotland needs managers. It must do better if it wants to recruit and retain the managerial skills and experience that will deliver the public’s priorities.
“This appears to be the final offer, achievable through negotiations alone. MiP’s members will now have their say on the revised offer in UNISON’s consultative ballot, which opens on Monday.”
