UNISON Members

MiP and UNISON

MiP operates as a national branch of UNISON. When UNISON members become eligible for MiP, they are automatically transferred into our branch. UNISON members become eligible for MiP if they:

  • Work in the NHS at Agenda for Change band 8a or above; or
  • Work in the NHS on the Graduate Management Trainee Scheme; or
  • Work in a non-NHS health or social care organisation, earning a basic salary of £40,000 and have a management responsibility

Transferring to MiP

Members transferred to MiP remain full UNISON members. Members transferred maintain their continuity of membership and existing UNISON membership number, are entitled to vote in future UNISON pay ballots, and continue to access UNISON membership benefits.

Transferring to MiP means you have now been allocated to the most appropriate branch for your role. MiP was established to focus on the issues which impact managers and leaders the most. All MiP workplace reps are managers themselves, meaning you will be supported by your peers who have a deeper understanding and experience of management related issues.

MiP works very closely with UNISON branches and we are represented on NHS staffside through our links with UNISON. Our staffside representatives ensure that management issues are raised through partnership working arrangements.

As well as maintaining all your benefits from UNISON, being part of MiP means you can also participate in MiP elections, ballots and contribute to our management specific campaigns and policy development.

The backing of three unions

MiP is a joint venture by UNISON and the FDA (the union for senior civil servants). This means that MiP members are also members of the FDA at no additional cost, sharing membership benefits and enjoying the backing of all three organisations.

MiP engage government, media and other stakeholders to campaign on issues which impact health and care managers, taking direction from our membership.
