The partnership working group discussing arrangements for the establishment and staffing of Health Education England and Local Education and Training Boards met today. Some progress has been made in identifying functions that will transfer, but progress on senior appointments is blocked until the chief executive is appointed

Transition update: public health transfer to local government - pensions

News for MiP members working in public health in PCTs in England transferring to local government

The Department of Health and the Local Government Association have written to primary care trust chief executives to confirm that staff who have access to the NHS Pension Scheme on 31 March 2013 will retain access to the scheme on transfer to local authorities.

There's still time to cast your vote online in MiP's ballot on the proposed new NHS pension scheme. The ballot closes on Tuesday 8 May. Your vote is important and MiP's national committee is asking for a big turnout to give them a clear mandate for their response to the proposals. Sorry but it is now too late to issue replacement ballot papers.

MiP supports the rally against the NHS Bill

Members of MiP will join other members of the healthcare team and concerned members of the public at the Save our NHS rally this evening to urge MPs to abandon the Health Bill. The rally takes place from 6pm to 7.30 at Central Hall, Storey’s Gate, Westminster.

Today is work your proper hours day

Health and social care managers regularly work extra unpaid hours

Friday 24 February 2012 is Work Your Proper Hours Day. According to TUC research, this is the day when those who do unpaid overtime would start, on average, to get paid if they did all their unpaid work at the start of the year. Now in its ninth year, the campaign highlights the amount of unpaid work carried out by employees across the UK. And the research shows that over half of healthcare managers are regularly working extra unpaid hours.

There's still time to withdraw the Health and Social Care Bill

It is not too late to withdraw the Health and Social Care Bill and avoid the unnecessary cost and disruption it would bring to the NHS.

As the Health and Social Care Bill returns to the Lords for its report stage, MiP has reiterated its call for the Bill to be withdrawn. MiP has always argued that the proposals are risky, unnecessary and costly, and the Government amendments to the Bill have not changed our minds. We are continuing to lobby Peers and MPs to raise our concerns, and you can lend your voice in a number of ways.

Updated NHS Pension calculators now published

The Department of Health has published updated calculators based on the Government's proposals for the future of the NHS scheme

The new NHS Pension calculators give you the opportunity to estimate your future benefits under the Government’s proposals, as set out in the Heads of Agreement. The Department of Health has also produced a calculator to enable you to estimate the increase in your contributions for 2012 – 2013. This is separate from the discussions about the reform of public sector pensions and will be implemented from April this year.
