NHS staff need more support to deliver latest reform plans

Fri 31 Mar 2017

The union for senior NHS managers gives its first reaction to 'Next Steps on the Five Year Forward View'

Responding to the publication today by NHS England of The Next Steps for the Five Year Forward View, MiP chief executive Jon Restell said:

“NHS managers are worried that the quality of care will go backwards and waiting lists will get even longer. Savings and improvements are always possible and desirable, but there’s no escape from the central fact that the NHS needs more funding.

“At a time of growing and intense pressure, managers and other NHS staff are being asked both to maintain business as usual and to make big changes. Realism, support and proper trade union involvement are therefore essential to delivering these plans.

“MiP will work with the NHS nationally and locally to support staff and make sure the changes are managed fairly and well. People who work for the NHS need the time and resources to use all their skills to make a success of the Five Year Forward View. Today's announcements make a start, but they don’t go far enough in giving NHS staff the support they need.”
