Who’s your Health Hero?

Show your appreciation for hardworking support staff in the NHS
Is there someone on your team who deserves national recognition for their dedication and contribution to patient care? Do you know someone in your organisation who takes special pride in their work, however tough things get? This is your chance to nominate them for a Health Heroes award.
Run by UNISON, in association with Skills for Health and the Skills Academy for Health, Our Health Heroes recognises the huge contribution made by support staff to delivering patient care in the NHS. Support staff don’t always get the credit they deserve but, as managers, MiP members know the NHS just wouldn’t work without them. So lets take a moment to sing their praises and show our appreciation for everything they do.
This year, there are two categories of award:
- Operational Services Support Worker of the Year
- Clinical Support Services Worker of the Year
Support staff make up more than 40% of the NHS workforce. They may be medical secretaries, admin staff, cleaners, porters, catering staff, health care assistants, technicians, managers, play workers, IT experts, finance staff or security guards – to name but a few. For a full list of the jobs eligible for an awards under one of the two categories, visit the Skills for Health website.
Nomination forms are available here. Nominations close on 23 September 2016, and the winners will be announced at a ceremony at the UNISON centre in London on 29 November 2016.
We know it won’t make up for the pay freeze, the job cuts and the pensions squeeze, but don’t pass up this opportunity to make someone on your team feel really appreciated.
